For nearly ten years, everything we have created at The Spirit of Manchester Distillery has been driven by one simple idea — creating exceptional spirits that reflect both the city we love and the craft we care deeply about.
Many people know us for Manchester Gin, the spirit that first put our independent distillery on the map. But behind the scenes, we have always been focused on broadening our craft and continuing to evolve what we are capable of creating.
Today, we are incredibly proud to introduce Manchester Rum First Edition — the first release in what we hope will become an exciting long-term collection of future Editions.
But this story actually began more than five years ago.
Why Rum?
For some time, we knew aged spirits would eventually play an important role in our future.
Whisky has always been part of our long-term ambition, but we also understood that entering the world of aged spirits required an entirely new set of skills. Barrel ageing, cask management, flavour development and, perhaps most importantly of all, blending.
Rum became our natural starting point.
It gave us the opportunity to begin developing the expertise needed to better understand how aged spirits evolve over time, while helping shape the foundations of everything we hope to create in the years ahead.
Learning Through Experience

Our first experience with rum began through One Eyed Rebel, a project that taught us a huge amount about the category and gave us an early understanding of what makes rum such a versatile spirit.
But as time passed, so did our ambition.
We wanted to create something more considered. Something slower.
Something that felt more reflective of the distillery we had spent years building and the premium spirits we wanted to become known for creating.
Manchester Rum became the natural evolution of everything we had learned.
Creating Manchester Rum
Back in 2020, we laid down our first barrels.
We started with a carefully selected white rum and re-distilled it here in Manchester using a beautifully balanced blend of botanicals, applying everything we had learned through years spent creating award-winning spirits.
Unlike many spiced rums, where flavour is often introduced later, we wanted to begin building complexity during the distillation process itself.
From there, the liquid was laid down in carefully selected casks and left to mature for more than five years while we carefully monitored flavour development, tracked individual barrels and refined every stage of the process.
Nothing about Manchester Rum has been rushed.
Time has shaped every part of this liquid.
The Art Of Blending

Creating aged spirits is never simply about what happens inside the barrel.
Over time, every cask develops its own unique character, making the final process of blending just as important as the original distillation itself.
Knowing when to blend, how flavours interact and how to bring multiple casks together to create balance, depth and complexity is where exceptional aged spirits are truly created.
This is where Manchester Rum comes to life.
Every future Edition will be carefully blended to ensure each release offers something distinctive while continuing to build on everything we continue learning as distillers.
Introducing First Edition
Manchester Rum launches with First Edition — the first release in what will become an evolving collection of future Editions.
Each future Edition will allow us to continue exploring new cask finishes, seasonal expressions and distinctive flavour profiles that explore feelings and moments, ensuring no two releases will ever be quite the same.

This bottle represents far more than simply a new product launch.
It reflects years spent refining our craft, broadening our expertise and quietly building something we are incredibly proud to finally share.
This is only the beginning.
