Our Story

It started with a love story and a single (double) G&T in a rum bar. Seb asked Jen if he could buy her a drink and from the first “yes”, a love blossomed. A love not just for each other, but for food, drinks and hospitality. When they started their award-winning dining room distillery in 2016, they had no idea the heights the business would reach in just a few short years. Now, The Spirit of Manchester Distillery operates as a state-of-the-art distillery capable of producing more than one million bottles a year; a world-class cocktail bar & restaurant; and an award winning distillery tour and gin making experience in the heart of the city. We pride ourselves on putting people at the heart of our business, from our front of house team to our guests, customers and to our community.

Sustainability

At the Spirit of Manchester Distillery we have a long-term vision to be more transparent and sustainable in all that we do. We are upping our commitment to sustainability. On our journey to reach carbon neutrality, we have been exploring options for low carbon bottles and alternate packaging. Alongside the global commitment to become Net Zero by 2050 and Manchester’s mission to become carbon neutral by 2038, we are working towards becoming Net Zero (scope 1, 2 and 3) by 2025.

From a dining room distillery to international home of drinks

In 2016, Jen & Seb founded Manchester Gin and The Spirit of Manchester Distillery, as a humble dining room venture consisting of an 80-litre still. 25,000 bottles and numerous awards later whilst operating from the dining room of their 3-bed home in South Manchester, the gin boom was in full swing. Since then, the distillery has evolved and taken on more official premises.

In the heart of Manchester city-centre, in 6 lovingly converted Grade-II* listed railway arches lies our home. A fully immersive venue containing our award-winning distillery, which produces Manchester Gin, Manchester Spirit Vodka, One-Eyed Rebel Spiced Rum, One Point Six Whisky and more, includiing vermouths, absinthe, and liquours. The distillery is also home to Trip Advisor’s #1 Thing to Do in Manchester, our interactive gin making experiences, distillery tours and guided tastings.

Our team won Team of the Year at the 2022 Top 50 Cocktail Bars awards for their warm service, and for their outstanding creations, which showcase the spirits we make next door in the distillery. With a considered food menu, a unique atmosphere, live music, world-class cocktails, and epic Sundays, we’re so proud of the venue that Three Little Words has grown to be.
